RUSUNUNGUKO HIGH SCHOOL, which is a member of the Zimbabwe Education with Production (Zimfep) schools in Mashonaland East province, was on Friday evening gutted by fire that affected two dormitories on the boys section.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

However, preliminary investigations indicated that the inferno could have been caused by an electrical fault.

Zimfep director Mr Gideon Chiukira expressed shock at the incident.

“We are very sorry for what happened. There is an urgent need to mobilise resources so that we give shelter to the boys,” he said.

The School Development Committee chairperson, Mr Kington Mundondo, indicated there were no casualties suffered but learners belongings were destroyed.

“We had no casualties  …  as the fire started during the time learners were having their study at the classrooms,” he said.

“The cause of the fire is still to be established as investigations by police and Zesa personnel are still ongoing.

“As the SDC, we call upon the corporate world, well-wishers and other stakeholders to kindly assist us with donations so that we quickly rebuild the burnt dormitories and accord our learners  decent and comfortable shelter.

“We are thankful to the Lord as there was no loss of life and injuries. We would also want to extend an appreciation to the school administration for a quick reaction in terms of containing the fire.”
