POLICE have arrested nine suspected drug dealers in Harare and seized narcotics worth US$68 000, including 300 kilogrammes of dagga and thousands of bottles of illegal cough syrup and painkillers, in a major operation targeting cross-border drug networks.
In a statement today, Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Charles Kakomwe (34), Priscilla Chakacha (32), Rhoda Mazoro (49), Ngonidzashe Mbundire (19), Terence Zvikwete (25), Pasco Muvhazhi (34), Denzel Lejala (20), Owen Kadzomba (18) and Prince Katsande (18).
He said the suspects were intercepted while receiving the contraband at Aspindale Truck Stop along High Glen Road in Harare on October 17, 2025, around 11.45pm.
Police recovered 300kg of dagga, 3 120 bottles of Astra Pain and 4 600 bottles of Broncleer cough syrup, all suspected to have been smuggled into the country, said Comm Nyathi.
Authorities also impounded three vehicles — a Nissan Caravan (AFL 2986), a commuter omnibus (AGY 4687) and a Honda Fit (ADT 6539) — allegedly used in the trafficking operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were being distributed through cross-border smuggling syndicates.
Comm Nyathi said police would continue intensifying efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country.
“There is no going back in the fight against drug and substance trafficking and peddling in the country,” he declared.
The arrests come as law-enforcement agencies scale up the ongoing national anti-drug campaign targeting suppliers, distributors and street-level dealers fuelling substance abuse, particularly among youths.
