GOVERNMENT, in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and the National Council of Chiefs, is conducting a two-day media workshop on Gukurahundi hearings coverage that kicked off yesterday at a Bulawayo hotel.
Various media houses are being presented by their editors at the indaba, while traditional leaders from the region are also in attendance.
Permanent Secretary in the Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ministry Mr Nick Mangwana is also among the delegates and encouraged media players to report responsibly on the Gukurahundi issue.
Media sensitisation on Gukurahundi, principles, ethics and information gathering as well as trauma and gender sensitive reporting were covered during yesterday’ sessions.
The delegates are today tackling the outline of the chiefs process in the hearing and media expectations for effective coverage.
President Mnangagwa last month commended progress made towards the launch of the Gukurahundi public hearings, which are expected to start in the first quarter of this year.
The Second Republic is dedicated to finding a lasting solution to the emotive issue, with victims placed at the centre of the process.
President Mnangagwa reaffirmed this during the fourth interface with traditional leaders from Matabeleland region at State House in Bulawayo.
