ZIMBABWEANS have been advised to prepare for very hot conditions across the country from Sunday, with the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) forecasting a significant rise in daytime temperatures expected to last until Tuesday.

In an advisory issued on Saturday in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, the MSD said very hot conditions would prevail countrywide from Sunday, October 18, to Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The department said reduced cloud cover and more sunshine hours over much of the country would drive the conditions, with temperatures likely to rise significantly in the afternoon, particularly in low-lying areas such as the Zambezi and Save Valleys.

An accompanying map indicates temperatures could rise by up to 5°C in parts of the country, mainly in the north-western and southern areas, while much of the central region is expected to see increases of about 3°C.

The MSD advised the public to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. It said particular attention should be given to vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and outdoor workers.
