THE Middle Sabi Social Soccer League held its awards ceremony on Sunday to honour the outstanding teams of the 2022 season.
League champions Sabi Bananas walked away with a floating trophy, soccer kit and a ball, while second-placed Settlers received a soccer kit and a ball.
Makata, who finished third, got the same prize.
Nine teams competed for the league’s top honours over the course of the season.
Middle Sabi Social Soccer League chairperson Trust Dube commended the teams for their competitive spirit throughout the season.
He said the were using the power of the game to fight social vices such as drug and substance abuse as well as gender-based violence.
“I would like to thank the farming community of Middle Sabi for pooling together resources to enable the league to run smoothly and successfully. Football has proved to be a great unifier and we must also use its power to fight and eliminate drug abuse and gender-based violence in our communities,” he said.
Guest of Honour, Blessing Mangwiro who is the chief executive of The Rock Logistics, handed over the prizes.
He urged the community to continue with its efforts to develop the game from grassroots levels.
To cap the afternoon, a Middle Sabi Social Soccer League select team took on Division Two outfit Rating, with the match going 4-2 the visitors’ way.
