THE cobwebs are set to come off the bikes as the 2026 Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship Series gets underway this weekend.
Battle-lines are drawn across all classes as the opening round of the six-round series revs off at the home of local motorsport — Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare — on Sunday morning. Hosted by the Bogwheelers Club, who run the motorcycling sport of motocross in this country under Motorsport Zimbabwe, this adrenaline-pumping showdown explodes at 10am on Sunday at this iconic venue.
Most of the country’s top junior and senior riders last raced in October or November last year, and they are all itching to get back on their bikes on Sunday morning after such a long break. They missed out on competing in last year’s famous season-ending Zimbabwe Summer Series which was cancelled after its dates clashed with the last round of the 2025 World Supercross Championship Series which was staged in Cape Town, South Africa, in December last year.
Sunday’s event promises to be one of the most electrifying events of the new season as the dirt bike riders jostle for the top step on the podium in the different classes that they will be competing in. Donnybrook Park isn’t just any circuit — it’s Zimbabwe’s only true world-class track, demanding skill, speed and stamina from every rider.
With its fast straights, deep berms, and technical rhythm sections, Donnybrook is known to separate the best from the rest.
This is where champions are made.
Sunday’s event marks the opening round of the 2026 motocross season, and you can bet the intensity will be off the charts from Heat 1.
Fierce competition is expected in all the classes, especially in the juniors’ 85cc Class in which 11-year-old Victor Nyamupfukudza is set to renew his rivalry with fellow talented young riders Kudzwai Chitsurura, Seb Wright, Chris Mufanechiya and Elroy Shamuyarira.
Nyamupfukudza, now a Grade 7 pupil at Elland Oak Junior School in Waterfalls, has graduated to race in the 85cc Class this year, moving up from the 65cc Class.
He has acquired a brand new bike which was expected to arrive from South Africa this week.
Nyamupfukudza’s father and manager, Simbarashe, told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday that his son was “so ex-cited” at the prospect of racing in the 85cc Class on a new bike.
“We’ve just bought a new bike which is on its way from South Africa and if it arrives on time before Sunday’s race meeting, I think Victor will be ‘the man’ to beat on Sunday.”
“His racing has vastly improved, and he has promised his fans to come in numbers and cheer him on as he fights for the first step on the podium,” Simbarashe said.
The seniors’ section is also expected to attract a good number of the country’s top riders. But the country’s champion rider, Emmanuel Bako, will be conspicuous by his absence as he will be in Johannes-burg, South Africa, where he is set to compete in the opening round of the inaugural SA Supercross Series tomorrow.
