NEW: Motorist runs over boy (4)

A 43-YEAR-OLD Buhera motorist has been arrested after he ran over a boy (4) who was crossing the road at the 58km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road.

 

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident, saying Tinaye Zvakavapano of Bedza Village under Chief Nerutanga was speeding when the accident occurred.

 

He said the boy died on the spot from the head injuries he sustained.

 

“The motorist was travelling towards Chivhu at high speed, carrying four passengers in his Land Cruiser vehicle. He ran over Henry Mugweni who was trying to cross the road at the 58km peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road. The boy sustained head injuries and fractured legs. He died on the spot,” said Inspector Muzondo.

 

He added that the vehicle was taken to Rusape police for inspection while the deceased’s body was taken to Murambinda Hospital for post-mortem.

 

Inspector Muzondo urged motorists to desist from speeding and always exercise extreme caution on the road.
