PEOPLE in the south eastern and south western parts of the country should watch out for isolated lightning strikes and showers, moderate winds and cold weather starting today and tomorrow, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned.
The weather conditions, which are also expected to shift from hot to cool on Wednesday until Friday, will affect Manicaland, Bulawayo metropolitan, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces as well as the southern districts of Midlands.
In an advisory issued in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, the MSD advised people in the affected areas to stay indoors or seek shelter in earthed buildings.
“When thunder roars, it is best to be indoors. Do not seek shelter under trees or near polls or pylons. Try to find an earthed building as most council approved houses and buildings are less affected by lightning due to the earth wire that runs through them. If unable to find shelter, crouch as low as possible and as far as possible from livestock. Ensure the elderly, persons with disabilities, young and ill are kept warm when the weather changes from hot to cool. Changes in temperature ranges affect all people,” said the MSD.
If there is need to use a brazier, it must be ensured that the room is well ventilated, added, the MSD and urged people to consult their local health health practitioners for better advice
