MIDLANDS State University students who graduated last Friday have paid tribute to national hero and founding Vice Chancellor Professor Ngwabi Bhebe, who was buried at the National Heroes Acre on Saturday.
He was 81.
Prof Bhebe’s burial came a day after a record 8 332 graduates were capped at MSU on Friday.
Bayayi Chiwapura, who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, said MSU has become one of the top universities in Zimbabwe because of Prof Bhebe’s visionary leadership.
“MSU will forever be associated with Prof Bhebe. He was not only a pioneer, but an inspirational figure to students who passed through the university,” he said.
“I knew his history when I was still studying, and his career shows that he yearned for academic excellence. His journals are academic masterpieces.”
Rutendo Mudzudzu, who graduated with a Degree in Local Governance Studies, also paid tribute to Prof Bhebe.
“When I started my degree in 2019, Prof Bhebe had retired as Vice Chancellor the previous year,” she said.
“We all knew about the role he played in founding the university and make it become one of the best, if not the best in Zimbabwe.”
Yolanda Unenyasha Moyo, who graduated with a Bachelor of Honours Degree in English, said:
“MSU has become such a large institution, where people from different backgrounds are able to enrol, in many parts of the country.
“We appreciate that all this could not have happened if it was not for the wisdom of Prof Bhebe. He is a true legend of advancing education.”
