WITH just four wins in 28 matches, it is becoming increasingly difficult for those at Harare City Football Club to find anything to smile about.
Their latest defeat at the hands of Tenax left them third from bottom going into the last six matches of the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Taurai Mangwiro’s side lost 1-0 to Tenax at Sakubva Stadium on Saturday, their 12th defeat of the season.
The Sunshine Boys now need nothing short of a miracle to survive the chop.
They have 24 points, five behind ZPC Kariba, who occupy 14th place.
However, Donald “Kante” Mudadi, by far City’s best player this season, remains defiant.
The 26-year-old central midfielder will be key for Harare City, who now have to win all their remaining matches and hope ZPC Kariba slip in the remaining matches.
“As an individual, I think I am happy with my performance, as I have improved on a lot of aspects since I came to Harare City.
“But, I guess now is not time to talk about myself; we need to talk about the team, because we are in a fight against relegation,” said Mudadi, who has also seen duty with Black Rhinos and Triangle United.
The hardworking midfielder is also comfortable with the ball, and has often been described as ‘influential’ by his coach Mangwiro.
Sadly, things have not gone well for City, who are winless in their last seven outings.
They have 24 points from 28 matches.
Harare City have four wins, 12 draws and 12 losses.
“The team has not been doing well in terms of picking up points, so sometimes it’s hard to talk about myself,” went on the midfielder.
“I am more focused on helping the team survive relegation. The chances are still high; we can survive if we win at least five games. However, we will be taking each game as it comes.
“There are six games to go, and we are still in there with a chance. We just need to win our games and not depend on the outcome of other matches.
Mudadi showed a lot of promise when he was still at Black Rhinos five years ago.
He was named the best player for the army side in 2018, after which his exploits earned him a lucrative move to Triangle United in January 2019.
He also excelled at Triangle before returning to the capital city.
“As an individual, I am enjoying my football, and that’s the most important thing.
“However, I do feel we need to step up a gear as a team.
“In coach Mangwiro we have a veteran leader who can help steer the team away from relegation. I even credit my rise to him (Mangwiro). We worked together at Triangle United and I learnt a lot of things from him,” he added.
Harare City play rejuvenated Black Rhinos at Vengere Stadium in Rusape on Saturday.
