A 26-year-old Mudzi man Prosper Chagunda has appeared before the Mutoko magistrate Mr Elijah Sibanda facing a murder charge.

He was remanded in custody to May 12, 2022.

Prosecutor Mr Nathan Majuru said on April 22, 2022, around 10pm, at Matombo Business Centre, Mudzi, the now-deceased Nyasha Mungazi (28) was standing at Tsoro Shop.

The court heard that the accused, who had a log, sneaked up on him from behind and struck him once on the back of the head.

The victim subsequently fell down, after which Chagunda vanished under the cover of darkness.

However, a witness, Silvester Mucharwei, flashed his torch and managed to identify him.

Another witness, Givemore Tsoka, later phoned the now-deceased’s father, Madya Mungazi, who then came and took victim to All Souls Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A police report was made at ZRP Makosa.
