A music mentorship programme, the Musicable Project, is presently midway through, with mentors Pauline Gundidza, Vuyo Brown and Raven Duchess working with female musicians who are living with disabilities.
Gundidza is working with Chipo Muchegwa, while Vuyo Brown is mentoring Sithandazile Gumbo.
Jacqueline Mpofu is under the tutorship of Raven Duchess.
The programme is a pilot project that is being conducted as part of POVOAfrika Trust’s increased support to communities that are often excluded from significant opportunities across Zimbabwe.
For the first edition, only six artistes were selected to participate as mentors.
These artistes were pre-selected from the network of musicians and artistes that POVOAfrika Trust has collaborated with in the past.
The ongoing mentorship activities include a range of skill-building and skill-sharing sessions among the artistes, focusing on areas such as branding, song writing, composition and music production.
The mentees are also receiving vocal training, including lessons on concert performance, music publishing, as well as copyright and distribution, among other aspects.
The songs that are produced will be presented at upcoming panel discussions scheduled for Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare.
