A MUTARE Girls’ High learner Ruvarashe Sithole’s essay was among the best three in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 2023 Secondary Schools Essay Writing Competition.
Sithole received US$200 prize money for her effort during a blissful ceremony held at the school yesterday (Friday).
Guest of honour at the prize handover ceremony, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Chief Director for Manicaland Mr Edward Shumba said: “The SADC Essay Competition is an annual event in our school system and an important aspect of regional cooperation. Zimbabwe has been participating in these companies for years and I would like to applaud schools such as Mutare Girls’ High and others that always encourage their pupils to participate,” said Mr Shumba.
The 2023 edition of the annual event saw participants contesting in an essay competition entitled “How can SADC promote industrialisation for inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth?”
SADC is a regional body of 16 countries meant to foster political and socioeconomic development.
Pursuant to those goals, SADC organises essay competitions meant to bring forth and share ideas on how to develop the region socially, culturally, economically and politically.
