Speaking on behalf of the Vambe family during the hand-over ceremony hosted by the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) at the Museum of African Liberation in Harare on Wednesday, Uzumba Senator, Conrad Jerry Gotora said Vambe played a pivotal role in the liberation struggle.
“Douglas Vambe, a prominent activist and musician, played a pivotal role in the fight against colonialism and apartheid,” he said.
“The Vambe family’s generous contribution enriches our collection and reinforces the museum’s commitment to honouring the heroes and heroines of Africa’s liberation.
“Douglas Vambe’s drum will serve as a powerful reminder of the indomitable spirit that drove the fight for freedom across the continent.”
Vambe’s widow, Nomsa, said she was happy that her husband’s legacy will be well be preserved.
“Douglas’ drum was more than an instrument; it was a voice for the voiceless and a heartbeat for our struggle,” she said.
“We are honoured to entrust it to the Museum of African Liberation, where it will continue to resonate with the spirit of liberation.”
Meanwhile, INSTAK yesterday hosted experts from various fields, including academia, in a bid to incorporate their input in the writing of the Chimurenga Encyclopedia.
