IT IS now seven years since Ngezi Platinum Stars lifted the Chibuku Super Cup but the Mhondoro-based side has a rare chance of bagging a league and cup double this season.
Madamburo, who lead the league table, are in the semi-final of the 2023 edition of the knockout tournament after eliminating last year’s finalists Herentals.
Ngezi Platinum Stars had never won against Herentals in the competition until Sunday.
Their defender Gareth Madhake, who was recruited from Black Rhinos at the start of the season, believes the Chibuku Super Cup offers a good chance to get silverware.
“The Chibuku Super Cup is a major cup here in Zimbabwe, so we are taking it seriously,” Madhake said.
“This is a very good chance of getting silverware and a ticket into the African safari.
“As a team, it has been long since we lifted a cup.”
Ngezi Platinum Stars won the Chibuku Super Cup in 2016 under the guidance of Tonderai Ndiraya.
They also reached the final twice in 2019 and 2021 under Rodwell Dhlakama.
Madhake also has a losers’ medal, having featured for Harare City when they lost to Triangle in the 2018 final.
“Yes, I have played in the final before and I failed to win it with Harare City, so this time I am praying that I get a winners’ medal with Ngezi Platinum Stars,” added Madhake.
“All who call on God in true faith, earnestly from the heart, will certainly be heard and will receive what they have asked and desired.
“I am a very happy man to be in semis.”
Ngezi Platinum Stars will face Black Rhinos in the semi-final, while Dynamos and CAPS United will clash in another mouth-watering tie.
