Government will continue to implement the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) programme in schools, as the approach facilitates an equitable and all-inclusive education system to produce multi-skilled learners, a senior Government official has said.
Giving oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education in Parliament on Thursday, Primary and Secondary Education deputy Minister Edgar Moyo said the Ministry is committed to ensure universal access to education for all learners.
“The Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALA) are based on the competent-based curriculum, which was adopted in 2015. The approach entails assessing learner competences on a curriculum that includes knowledge, skills, abilities, values and traits,” deputy Minister Moyo said.
“The framework advocates for a blended model of assessment, which combines assessment and summative assessment.”
He appealed to all stakeholders to partner the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for the betterment of the education sector in Zimbabwe.
“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will remain committed to promote equal, quality, inclusive, relevant and competence driven primary, secondary and non-formal education to all Zimbabweans,” he said.
