THE National Social Security Authority (NSSA) has begun rolling out a new online claims portal aimed at improving service delivery and reducing paperwork.
The authority presently processes an average of 4 500 claims every month across its various benefit categories, including pensions, survivors’ benefits, invalidity payments, funeral grants and injury compensation.
Previously, beneficiaries were required to physically visit NSSA offices to submit claim forms, attach supporting documents and follow up on applications through in-person enquiries, a process that often involved long queues, manual document handling and delays in verification.
The new digital platform now allows contributors and beneficiaries to submit claims electronically, upload supporting documents online and track the status of their applications in real time without visiting NSSA offices.
NSSA general manager Dr Charles Shava said the digital platform marks a major step in the authority’s broader digital transformation programme.
While the system is in its pilot phase, NSSA expects a growing number of beneficiaries and employers to embrace online claims submission over the coming months.
“The National Social Security Authority currently processes an average of 4 500 claims per month across its various benefit categories,” said Dr Shava.
“With the recent launch of the Online Claims Portal, the authority anticipates a progressive migration of eligible claims to the digital platform as adoption gains momentum.”
He said it is still too early to provide definitive projections on the percentage of claims that would migrate to the online platform because the system remains in a pilot phase.
According to Dr Shava, NSSA expects uptake to increase through a phased onboarding process, stakeholder awareness campaigns and ongoing technical support.
The portal allows beneficiaries to submit claims electronically and monitor progress without having to physically visit NSSA offices.
