REHABILITATION of canals at Nyanyadzi Irrigation Scheme is progressing smoothly as preparations for the agricultural season intensify.

Nyanyadzi agricultural extension supervisor, Mr Fisher Chabvanga said the development is set to benefit the 412-hectare irrigation scheme to enhance productivity and profitability as well as improve communal livelihoods.

Mr Chabvanga said most farmers have already started receiving Pfumvudza inputs.

“Work on rehabilitating the Nyanyadzi Irrigation Scheme is going on well. Assistance from Government and development partners like United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and others has made the rehabilitation of the canal possible after it was halted due to inadequate resources. This will greatly benefit local farmers as they heavily rely on the irrigation scheme for agricultural production,” he said.

Mr Chabvanga added that rehabilitating the canal will make Nyanyadzi Irrigation Scheme fully functional again and turn around the fortunes of local communities.

He expressed confidence of a successful 2022-20233 farming season.
