FORMER Mighty Warriors skipper Nomsa “Boys” Moyo is confident of lifting the inaugural Thembalethu Foundation women’s soccer tournament when her Borrow Jets take on her former club New Orleans in the final set for Raylton this afternoon.
Jets won all their Pool B games, beating Cowdray Park Queens 5-0 and Highlanders Royals 2-0 before dismissing Pool A runners-up Street Sets 2-0 in the semi-final.
New Orleans hammered Sobukhazi 6-0 in their first Pool A match, drew 0-0 draw with Street Sets and beat Highlanders Royals 4-1 in the semi-final.
“Everyone is looking forward to winning this cup, which happens to be the last event of the year. We really fancy our chances against New Orleans and I know it won’t be an easy game, but we believe in ourselves. If we play as a unit and stick to the game plan, I know we’re going to win,” said Moyo.
New Orleans coach Nkanyiso Bhebhe praised the girls for reaching the final and said they were geared for today’s final.
“We’re happy to be in the final and we’re just going there to enjoy our game. It’s going to be an exciting encounter against Jets, who are also eager to become the first to win this tournament,” said Bhebhe.
Highlanders Royals and Street Sets will battle it out in the third place play-off, which will be the curtain raiser to the final.
The tournament’s objective is to change lives and bring hope to girls through football.
All the four teams that play today will each get high quality kits sourced from the UK. There are also individual accolades for excelling players.
