A NEW US$2,5 million orthopaedic hospital has been completed in Bulawayo with Government saying Ekusileni Hospital will be opened by December this year.
The new hospital is housed at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) complex’s former infectious diseases wing.
Orthopaedics is a a branch of medicine dealing with the treatment of disorders of the bones and joints, and correction of deformities, originally in children.
UBH in partnership with the Zimbabwe Orthopaedic Trust started refurbishing its former infectious diseases hostel in 2018.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Agnes Mahomva while addressing journalists at UBH yesterday,said the future of good healthcare in the country lay in successful public private partnerships. She commended UBH for successfully entering into partnership with Zimbabwe Orthopaedic Trust and said the development gave hope to the ministry which she said often struggled to get into such partnerships.
“As a ministry we often struggle to get into such partnerships as there is a lot to consider in the short and long term. I want to commend UBH and the rest of the team for the good work they have done.There is state- of- the- art equipment that has been set up inherently and we hope that this hospital will open its doors to the public as soon as possible. The kind of equipment here is private hospital standard but we hope this facility will serve everyone. It should therefore be affordable to all members of the public.”
