New pension pay dates

Government yesterday announced new pay dates for pensioners with effect from next month. Public Service Commission secretary Mrs Pretty Sunguro said in a statement that payments had been moved to October 7 and 9.

“War veterans’ pension; war veterans’ spouses and children’s pension; ex-political prisoners, detainees and restrictees’ pension; ex-political prisoners, detainees and restrictees’ and children’s pension; and national heroes’ spouses and children’s pension will be paid on October 7,” she said.

Mrs Sunguro said that the rest of the pensioners would receive their salaries on October 9.

She said: “The Public Service Commission wishes to advise that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has staggered pensioners’ pay dates. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.”
