THE African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight belt is now in Zimbabwe, and the two contestants for the prestigious title are now both ready for battle.
Zimbabwe’s Aliyah “Lantso” Phiri and Israel “Money Machine” Kamwamba faced off in Harare on Tuesday morning, as part of the build up to the ABU lightweight title fight at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale on Friday night.
Thousands of boxing fans are expected to throng the venue to witness this historic fight.
It is very rare for Zimbabwe to host an ABU title fight.
A highly confident Kamwamba is inviting boxing lovers to come for treat on Friday night.
“I want to thank you for welcoming me here in Zimbabwe. I have been preparing for this title fight for a long time.
“What I can only say is I am more than ready,” said Kamwamba.
The 29-year-old boxer also holds the World Boxing Federation lightweight title, which he wrestled from Zimbabwean Evans Husayihwevhu in July.
But his WBF title is not on the line.
“I am called Money Machine, because I win but I do not want to say much before the fight.
“You know Ali is a good boxer, but I am also good.
“So Zimbabwean boxing fans should come in large numbers to witness a good fight.”
The 23-year-old Phiri was also confident.
“I want to thank my father Issa Phiri, my coach Ali Phiri and my sponsors here.
“Much respect to the champion here, the Money Machine, but he is a champion in Malawi,” he said.
“He is not a champion in Zimbabwe.
“I have worked hard for this fight. I cannot wait for Friday, because I know we have already won the belt.
“I do not know if you can believe it, but we are going to win the belt.”
