THE Tanganda Tea Half Marathon held on Sunday in Mutare has been described as a perfect platform where both seasoned and budding athletes can sharpen and hone their skills respectively.
The event, which attracted some of the top names in the game from across the country, saw Moses Takarinya beat other contestants to take the first prize, while Munyaradzi Jari came second and Misheck Sithole was third.
National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) president Tendai Tagara said the sport continues to grow and has their full support as they aim to improve the athletes’ livelihoods.
“The Tanganda Tea Half Marathon was oversubscribed as the event managed to attract some of the big names. This shows that the athletes valued the event and we are happy that more sponsors are coming on board to partner Tanganga as a collective unit.
“As an association, we also acknowledge the efforts Tanganda are putting in to ensure that athletes walk away with decent prizes. The event continues to grow from strength to strength and we hope that next year it will be bigger and better,” said Tagara.
Tanganda Tea Company beverages and marketing director Kwirirai Chigerwe said the Half Marathon went on well and met their expectations as many athletes took part.
Touted as one of Zimbabwe’s premier long distance contests, the Tanganda Tea Half Marathon is one of the major events under NAAZ hosted annually in Manicaland.
