MIDLANDS Province has a new police chief after Senior Assistant Commissioner Charles Makono was redeployed to head Mashonaland East.Senior Assistant Commissioner Shadreck Mubaiwa, previously the head of Support Unit Administration, takes over from Makono.
Speaking at his farewell party yesterday, Snr Asst Makono said he was proud to have been the number one crime fighter in the Midlands.
“I’ve been the officer commanding Midlands province since December 2009 and I’m proud that with the help of the political leadership, fellow police officers and other important stakeholders, we have managed to harness and reduce the number of crime in the Midlands province during my term,” he said.
“I’m leaving the province a happy man having worked so well with all the stakeholders.”
Snr Asst Makono was particularly proud that the Midlands province recorded no incidences of crime during last year’s harmonised elections.
Speaking at the same occasion, Snr Asst Comm Mubaiwa said he was happy to head the Midlands province, his birth place.
“This is my province. I was born and bred in this province and it’s a pleasure and honour to be working at home. I’m looking forward to work well with all the stakeholders and take our province from where Snr Asst Makono left from,” he said.
The farewell party was attended by several heads of government departments, senior political leadership and a number of traditional leaders.
