Police escalate fight against crystal meth

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it is escalating the fight against the use of crystal meth, a highly addictive drug known by its street name, mutoriro.

In a terse statement on Twitter on Thursday, the police said it had already recovered illicit drugs valued at $8 million in its ongoing operation to eliminate the distribution of narcotic substances.

“The ZRP has intensified operation ‘No to Crystal Meth’ and all drug peddlers are emphatically warned that they risk being arrested,” reads the statement.

“From May 10 to May 17, 2021, a total of 93 suspects were nabbed, of which 26 were detained and 67 were convicted.”
