NEW: Police release names of Chivhu-Nyazura Road accident victims

POLICE have released names of victims who died in a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 73-kilometre peg along the Chivhu-Nyazura Road on October 24, 2025.

A haulage truck carrying a load of cement rammed into the back of a Toyota Hiace, which had 12 passengers on board.

As a result, five of the people who were travelling in the Toyota Hiace, including the driver, died.

Eight others sustained serious injuries and were taken to Murambinda Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the victims who have been identified by their next of kin are the kombi driver, Takunda McGregor Ndoro (29), from Mt Pleasant Heights, Harare; Juliet Chikasha (58) of Southlea Park, Harare; and Juliet Makunike (25) from Burma Valley, Mutare.

Other victims are Taurai Manyewu (51) from Epworth, Harare; and Muzonda Marumbei (94) from Nyamande village, Buhera.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating another fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 192-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road, near Mvuma, on October 26, 2025.

A motorist who was driving a Nissan Caravan towards Harare with seven passengers on board lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it overturning twice before landing on its left side.

Two people died on the spot, while four others were injured.

ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should exercise caution on the roads to safeguard lives.”
