A new poll has revealed that rhetoric spouted by Leavers that people just want to “get Brexit done” and move on to different issues is demonstrably false.
According to polling data by What UK Thinks, 58% of respondents said they feel strongly about their preferred outcome and want every effort to ensure it happens, even if this means continued divisions or delays.
Just 38% said they “just want us to get on with it”.
The polling will cast aspersions on the rhetoric used by Brexiteer politicians. Boris Johnson has repeatedly said that people want Brexit to be over and done with, while his right hand man Sajid Javid has echoed these sentiments. Meanwhile, leader of the Brexit Party Nigel Farage has similarly used these claims to push his no-deal Brexit agenda.
But this new poll has revealed that this is not the case, and Remainers and Leavers alike do not wish to rush a Brexit outcome, news that further shames Boris Johnson’s attempt to push through his deal in just three days.
Brexit isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. It must be scrutinised properly.
