Zimbabweans have responded well to the Government’s polio vaccination programme, an official has said.

The third round of the programme, which was targeting a demographic of five years and below, ran between May 26 to 29 2023.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Ministry of Health and Child Care director of communications Mr Donald Mujiri, said:

“We managed to vaccinate more children compared to the previous rounds.

“Out of 11 provinces, four provinces obtained above 95 percent, five provinces obtained 80 percent and above, and one province obtained below 80 percent.”

The national vaccination rollout is part of a wider regional strategy, following a resurgence of polio following an outbreak of the disease in Malawi and Mozambique.
