PRESIDENT MNANGAGWA joined proceedings in the National Assembly on Wednesday during the question-and-answer session, an X post from Parliament has revealed.
Commenting on the visit, Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda said the President was an integral part of Zimbabwe’s Legislature.
“The visit to Parliament by the President must be read within the aegis of the Constitution,” said Speaker Mudenda.
“Section 116 of the Constitution unequivocally states that ‘The Legislature of Zimbabwe consists of Parliament and the President.’”
The visit underscores the interconnectedness of the arms of Government and highlights the President’s role in legislative affairs beyond the traditional ceremonial functions.
While the President did not contribute to the debate, his observance of the parliamentary process is being viewed as a reaffirmation of constitutional governance and transparency.
The question-and-answer session provides Members of Parliament with the opportunity to hold ministers to account, pose questions on public policy and raise concerns from constituencies.
