President Mnangagwa has committed to implement policy changes that will help reduce Zimbabwe’s carbon emissions to ensure that the country plays its part in mitigating climate change.

Posting on Twitter, President Mnangagwa said his forthcoming visit to the United Kingdom, for the COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference, will be an opportunity to exchange notes with other world leaders on addressing the climate phenomenon.

“For Zimbabwe, we feel the impact of climate change more than others. Our temperatures have risen by approximately 2°C over the past century, which has seen a significant increase in extreme weather. In the past two decades alone, we have had to deal with 10 droughts,” said President Mnangagwa.

He said his administration is committed to drastically reduce the country’s carbon footprint by the year 2030.

“Zimbabwe has now committed to reducing emissions by 40 percent before 2030. The time for words is over – we must act now.”

He said the fight against climate change was everyone’s responsibility and action will guarantee protection of jobs and livelihoods.
