ORDINARY Zimbabweans will get a chance to have their say in the process of drafting the country’s death penalty position when the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs this month holds consultations at grassroots level  across provinces for public opinion on the matter.

In a statement today, the ministry said it will work together with the Centre for Applied Legal Research and the Embassy of Switzerland during the exercise.

Preliminary training of trainers with case care workers, village health workers and youth officers in anticipation of the actual consultations to capacitate them shall be conducted, adds the statement.

“After convening a high level consultative meeting, several recommendations were proferred in the meeting. One major reason highlighted was to amass public opinion on the subject matter,” reads part of the statement.
