NEW: PWDs urged to utilise budget processes to secure needs

Online Reporter

People with disabilities (PWDs) have been urged to take advantage of budget formulation forums and processes to secure their needs and interests.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 national budget presentation this afternoon, director of Signs of Hope Trust Ms Samantha Sibanda said it was important for PWDs to scrutinise and propose amendments to the budget.

“While we advocate for the inclusion of PWDs’ needs in the budget, it is crucial that PWDs themselves engage with the process,” she said.

“By following the parliamentary debates and engaging with legislators, PWDs can ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed.”

Ms Sibanda encouraged PWDs to exercise their rights and propose amendments to the budget.

“Today’s statement is not the final budget,” she said. “There is a window for aspirations to be considered.”

Ms Sibanda added that the disability community expects issues like business loans, grants, and empowerment initiatives to be addressed in today’s budget statement.
