FORMER television presenter Gibson Ncube will from tomorrow evening host a new radio show titled The Link, Your Connection to the City of Kings and Queens, on ZiFM stereo.
The show will be on air between 6 and 9pm.  In an interview, Ncube said the aim of his show was to create a link between the rest of the country and Bulawayo’s music sector which has over the years not had a fair share of airplay on national radio stations.

“We live in a generation that can connect with foreign artistes but do not even know their own local artistes. The show is for everyone, even local residents because it provides them with a good chance to know their musicians,” he said.

Ncube said he was not pleased to see how local music lovers are ignorant of locally made music.

“South African music dominates in the city but with this show, the city and the country will get a chance to listen to what Bulawayo has to offer. Good music is being made in Bulawayo, fans will realise it soon,’ he said.

Ncube urged Matabeleland musicians to come up with quality music that fits within the radio station’s broadcasting standards.

“I will not entertain poor quality songs on the show. I want to work with local artistes but they have to come up with good stuff that can make someone in Mutare dance even without understanding the contents of the song,” he said.

Ncube said he had been disappointed by some of the music he has listened to but hoped his show would encourage artistes to come up with improved works.

“I have observed that most local artistes believe singing non friendly songs with vulgar lyrics can make them big. We encourage them to come up with clean works which are non provocative and without insulting words,” he said.

Ncube said all local musicians with their music that has or not been played on radio before should feel free to approach him and give him their music.

“Good music will be played and if it’s not up to standard it will not get showcased,” he said.

After completing his high school education, Ncube worked for ZTV as a presenter for programmes such as Teen Scene, Showcase as well as Out and About.

He is one of the leading DJs in the city and is famous for his Thursday and Friday night shows at Eden and Horizons nightclubs respectively.
