New rank for students

Herald Reporter
A new commuter omnibus rank to cater for University of Zimbabwe students has been established, Urban Commuter Operators of Zimbabwe president Zimbarashe Ngarande has said. The rank situated along Rezende Street and between Jason Moyo and Nelson Mandela Street in Harare comes in the wake of an increase in the number of UZ students robbed and assaulted by crews of unregistered commuter omnibuses and while aboard pirate taxis.

“There will be identification on all commuter omnibuses ferrying students to the university inscribed Ucoz in front and at the back. This is to ensure that if students have problems, it becomes easy for them to communicate with the operator.

“The rank will act as a dropping and picking zone and will assist in curbing pirate taxis at the illegal rank along Chinhoyi Street. We advise all UZ students to use designated ranks when travelling to avoid previous incidents where they were robbed.”

Mr Ngarande said commuters from the eastern side of the city and on their way to UZ would use the Fourth Street rank while those from the western side would use the Rezende Street rank. He said another motive for the rank was to have a central pick up point which is convenient and safe for students.
