MANICALAND will tomorrow join the rest of the country for the National Youth Day celebrations to be held at Lupane State University in Matabeleland North Province where more than 30 00 people are expected to attend.

The highly subscribed event, which is running under the theme: “Drug and Substance Abuse: A Threat to Vision 2030; Every Community Has a Responsibility”, will be graced by President Mnangagwa who will lead proceedings as the guest of honour.

Celebrated every year on February 21, the National Youth Day is in honour of the late former president Robert Mugabe who was born on the day, which has been declared a national holiday.

In an interview this afternoon, ZANU PF Manicaland provincial youth chairman Cde Stanley Sakupwanaya said they have organised for interested people to travel to Lupane for interaction with President Mnangagwa and other citizens in a show of enthusiasm to contribute towards the attainment of Vision 2030.

“This is an important day on the national calendar and as youths from Manicaland we are attending the event in order to exchange ideas and share experiences with others from across the country. We have already organised transport to and from Lupane and everyone willing to be part of the national celebrations can get in touch with our respective district offices for assistance.

“The theme for this year’s celebrations resonates well with the nation’s aspirations towards achieving an empowered and prosperous upper-middle income society by 2030. As young people, we have a huge role to play towards achieving this goal by tackling drug and substance abuse. As responsible and patriotic youths, we need to be heavily involved in the country’s economic growth, social transformation and industrialisation under the able leadership of President Mnangagwa,” said Cde Sakupwanya.

He added that as future leaders, young people have to emulate the humility, selflessness and hard work of President Mnangagwa in serving the country.

“As the youths, we must be active participants in building Zimbabwe brick by brick and stone upon stone, following the President’s lead and example. To be able to do this, we should desist from wasting away on drugs and be hands-on in the national development of our country,” he said.

Cde Sakupwanya said plans are on course to hold National Youth Day provincial celebrations.
