Centuries from Prince Masvaure, Antum Naqvi and Remembrance Nyathi helped the Midlands-based franchise, Rhinos, post the highest franchise score of 621 for nine on Thursday.

Masvaure posted 166 runs, while Naqvi and Nyathi added 108 and 100 runs, respectively, to help Rhinos to 621 runs for nine on day two of their four-day match against Southern Rocks.

The total became the highest franchise score yet.

It, however, falls short of the First-Class record set by Mashonaland’s 703 against Matabeleland during the 2002/03 season.

Mashonaland’s score was posted before Zimbabwe Cricket adopted the franchise system in 2009.

Rhinos had set an overnight score of 378 for the loss of four wickets on the first day of the four-day match, with Masvaure unbeaten with 158 to begin the day.

However, the 34-year-old top-order batter failed to build on his impressive innings as he was sent packing for 166 on the second day of the match, after he was caught by Cephas Zhuwao off the bowling of Nigel Mupurura.

After Masvaure’s dismissal, Nyathi and Naqvi carried on the charge as they scored an unbeaten 100 runs off 159 deliveries and 108 off 114 balls.
