NEW: Road accident claims five on Valentine’s Day

FIVE people were killed and 16 were badly injured when a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus were involved in a head-on collision along the Harare-Masvingo Road on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the injured and bodies of the deceased have since been taken to Masvingo General Hospital.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident, which occurred on February 14, 2023, at around 4.10 pm, at the 254 km peg along Mutare-Masvingo Road in which five people died while 16 others were injured,” said police.

“A Toyota Hilux vehicle travelling towards Masvingo with three passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Hiace kombi travelling in the opposite direction with 17 passengers on board.”
