New road port for Chitungwiza traders

Mr Progress Murandigone, programme manager of Ruswa Consultancy who have been contracted to refurbish the port, said work would be completed this week.
“We have finished 80 percent of the refurbishment work and are hoping to finish as soon as possible.
“The development has come amid the realisation that more than 65 percent of passengers at Harare Roadport are from Chitungwiza,” he said.
Mr Tsakatsa Murove, a cross-border trader from Zengeza, said the new terminus would reduce their costs.
“Over the years I have had to spend money on taxis whenever I travel, but now road port has come to my backyard,” he said.
Mrs Michela Chito lauded authorities for facilitating such an important development in the area.
“Chitungwiza Town has grown a step further because even vendors will have someone to sell their commodities to.
“This is a welcome development for sure,” she said.
Some of the completed works include refurbishment of ablution facilities.
The rapidly growing town is likely to benefit from major businesses that will come along with travelling parties.
The move comes as part of efforts to decongest the Harare central business district.
