ONE learner at Muvhimwa Primary School in Makoni District suffered minor injuries when a classroom roof was blown off while they were sitting for their Grade Seven examinations last week.

The incident, which happened at Muvhimwa Primary school in Makoni West, did not affect the smooth flow of the exams as it happened when the invigilating teacher was collecting answer sheets from the learners.

Makoni District Schools Inspector, Mr George Chidhakwa confirmed the incident.

“Some roofing sheets were blown off at Muvhimwa Primary and there are no reports of injuries to learners and staff. The examination was not disturbed,” he said.

The financial cost of the damaged infrastructure is yet to be ascertained.

A source at the school, said the teacher in charge of the exam class did well to avert disaster as asbestos sheets fell into the classroom.

“Strong winds swept through our school and one classroom where the learners were sitting for a Shona paper had its roof blown off. Asbestos sheet fell right into the classroom where the invigilator was collecting answer sheets from the candidates.

“A learner was hit by debris and sustained minor injuries. The teacher managed to control the stampeding learners,” said the source.
