ROOSEVELT Girls High school student, Panashe Makoni, has won the ‘Young Junior Councillor of the Year’ award for 2021, beating 12 other candidates.
Panashe scooped the award for her hard work in her community of Ruwa, in which she sourced donations to help the less privileged, as part of the competition.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Panashe said through the initiative, several five families in her community benefited as they received some groceries and allowances.
“I went to the churches and people in my community with my begging bowl, and they assisted me very well and I managed to help a number of families.”
“After winning this award, I am greatly inspired and next year I want to compete again,” she said.
“As a junior councilor, I’m also dedicated to serve the community by embarking on drug awareness campaigns.
“I would like to host an event and educate the youths to shun drugs and also teach them the side effects of the drugs.”
