NEW: SADC Parliament to become bloc’s regional institution

FOREIGN Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava on Wednesday signed an agreement to amend the SADC Treaty to include the regional bloc’s Parliament as an institution of the regional body.

The ministry announced the development on Wednesday.

Ambassador Shava signed the agreement together with other SADC ministers at the ongoing 42nd Ordinary Session of the SADC Heads of State and Government Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

The regional parliament was approved at the previous summit in Lilongwe, Malawi, last year.
