Zvishavane Town Council is constructing a secondary school which is almost complete, and will soon be commissioned. Town Secretary Mr Tinoda Mukutu said the construction of George Chipadze Secondary School started last year and they hope to complete the work as soon as schools open.
“We are building a school, which we intend to commission very soon and it’s called George Chipadze Secondary School. So far, there are four blocks and we intend to build more blocks and an ablution facility. As soon as schools open, we are going to commission that school, which is wholly-funded by council and the School Development Committee. Other schools which we have include Mandava Secondary, Shabanie Secondary and other primary schools,” Mr Mukutu said.
In this year’s budget, the municipality allocated $20 000, which will be used to complete the construction before the school is commissioned. The school is part of other capital projects for which $900 000 was set aside. In her 2018 budget speech, Finance Committee chairperson Councillor Fatuma Phiri said they will call on all stakeholders to provide resources as they want to complete all set projects.
“There is need for all stakeholders to mobilise resources so that we are able to successfully undertake the capital projects, which will go a long way in improving the standard of living of the Zvishavane and surrounding community.
“It is important to note that these projects cannot be undertaken by Zvishavane Town Council alone, but require partnering with various stakeholders through PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships),” Clr Phiri said.
