A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer appeared in court on Friday facing charges of stealing US$623 462 while serving in a senior administrative role.
Isiah Chigodora (28), the officer-in-charge of operations at ZRP Mutoko Police Station, was charged with fraud at Harare Magistrates’ Court.
He allegedly committed the offence between September 2023 and July 2024 while serving as the officer in charge of administration and human resources at the ZRP Consolidated Fund, based at Police General Headquarters in Harare.

Chigodora was not required to enter a plea when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa.
He was remanded in custody until February 11 for a bail hearing.
Chief Inspector Lameck Munyaka, the acting secretary for the ZRP Board of Trustees, is representing the police in the matter.
Prosecutor Mr Anesu Chirenje told the court that Chigodora was responsible for the safekeeping of cash, financial records and capital floats at the ZRP Consolidated Fund.
The prosecution alleges that Chigodora devised a scheme to siphon funds generated by various ZRP business entities.
Between September 2023 and July 2024, he reportedly falsified records to indicate that money was transferred to Joyce Mine on multiple occasions.
However, investigations revealed that Joyce Mine ceased operations in 2021.
Instead, Chigodora allegedly stole the equivalent cash from the deposit box under his control.
