SIX learners perished, while 39 others, including staff from Tynwald High School, were injured during a school trip when their bus was involved in an accident at the 75km peg along Rusape-Nyanga Road.

The accident happened around 7pm on Friday near Pine Tree Hotel after the bus veered off the road and overturned.

The injured are admitted at Nyanga District Hospital and Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

In a statement, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bus driver reportedly failed to negotiate a sharp curve, resulting in the bus rolling several times on a steep slope.

The bus, which had 46 occupants, subsequently landed on its roof.

“The names of the victims will be released in due course when their next of kin have been advised.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is conducting investigations with a view of establishing what happened in this sad and unfortunate road traffic accident,” he said.
