NEW: Six Zimbabwean armed robbery suspects escape from SA custody 

SIX Zimbabweans have escaped custody in South Africa, and are on the run.

According to reports, the six made good their escape while they were being transported to Court at Vosloorus in South Africa.

Circumstances are that the police truck transporting the prisoners was ambushed by three armed men, who were driving a silver Audi vehicle at the corner of Barry Marais and Rondebult streets.

SAPS spokesperson in Gauteng, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, said five of the six escapees were due at court for robbery, murder and possession of firearms, while the sixth was due for a theft case.

“The five of the six escapees were due at Court for a Dawnpark case of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and the sixth escapee was due for his first appearance on a shoplifting case,” said Brigadier Muridili

“All accused are Zimbabwean nationals, Nkululeko Nkomo, Robert Hlatshwayo, Thulani Dube, Augustine Moyo and Mbongiseni Mkandla.” – Online Reporter/News24
