SMALL to Medium Enterprises continue to make a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth and national development, Zanu PF Secretary for Economic Development and Empowerment Cde Sthembiso Nyoni has said.

Speaking at the launch of SMEs for Economic Development website in Harare this afternoon, Cde Nyoni stated that SMEs are the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy.

“SMEs are the creators of employment, incubators of innovation, drivers of industrialisation, and engines of community development” said Cde Nyoni

Across the world, Cde Nyoni highlighted that SMEs account for the overwhelming majority of businesses and provide livelihoods to millions of families.

She stressed that the website is a milestone, marking another important step towards the empowerment of Zimbabwean entrepreneurs and the modernisation of the sector.

“Today, we are not merely launching a website. We are launching a platform for economic participation, a gateway to opportunity and a digital bridge connecting Zimbabwe’s entrepreneurs to markets, information, investment opportunities and national development,” said Cde Nyoni.

The launch of the website comes at a time when the world is rapidly embracing digital transformation.

Cde Nyoni stated that businesses that fail to establish a strong line presence risk being left behind in an increasingly global economy.

“Modern enterprises must be visible, connected, innovative and accessible through digital platforms,” she said.

“Research and business experience increasingly show that websites have become critical tools for credibility, market access, customer engagement and business growth.

The Second Republic, under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, has consistently placed economic empowerment at the centre of national development.

SMEsforED president Cde Lloyd Bayera said that, through Vision 2030, they are committed to transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy characterised by prosperity, inclusivity and sustainable growth.

The vision cannot be achieved without the active participation of SMEs.

Cde Bayera said the SMEs4ED website provided an opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services beyond their immediate communities.
