SELF-PROCLAIMED queen of pole dancing Zoey Sifelani says the new wave of strip dancers are mere night riders who have no future in the entertainment industry.
The introduction of new outlets such as Private Lounge in Harare has given birth to new strippers such as the Freaky Barbie Dolls who seem to be taking the country’s arts scene by storm.
But Zoey, one of the pioneers of raunchy entertainment in the country said she was not threatened by the strippers who she feels will soon be forgotten by patrons as they are “mere” strippers while she described herself as a professional dancer.
“Strippers are just night riders who’ve no future in the dance industry. They think getting naked in front of people is an art which they can sustain. You can’t spend four hours just exposing your nude body on stage, it’s impossible. This is a passing phase, they found us here and they shall leave us here,” said Zoey.
“I’m not having sleepless nights because of these girls, some like Magnito and Reela of Freaky Barbie Dolls whom I fired from the Red Angels for unbecoming behaviour. I believe I was right in firing them as they would’ve corrupted the other dancers,” said Zoey.
The pole dancer who has been in the game for the past five years, runs a vibrant dance academy and has since opened another school to accommodate more students.
“The dance academy has expanded as I’m now running it from two venues in Harare. I’ve over 50 students, mostly female enrolled for two-week courses,” she said.
Asked when she would stage a show in Bulawayo, Zoey who last performed in the city last year said she was waiting on a trustworthy promoter.
“I’m still waiting to engage a trustworthy promoter who’ll book us to perform there. The promoters I used to deal with are no longer there so I’m looking for new ones. I want someone who’s serious so as to avoid fights over payments,” said Zoey.
While waiting for her Bulawayo show, Zoey said fans could enjoy her new single Muzvambarara that is already available for purchase at flea markets for $1.
Zoey and the Red Angels and Bev and the Sexy Angels revolutionised raunchy entertainment in the country with their outrageous dance moves and were popular during their time.
