THERE is an urgent need for Zimbabwe and Botswana to significantly enhance trade cooperation to bolster regional integration and accelerate Harare’s aspiration of becoming an upper middle-income society by 2030.
This was said by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava on Wednesday while officially opening the Botswana-Zimbabwe Business Forum, which is being held here on the margins of the Fourth Session of the Botswana-Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission.
“I wish to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe aspires to achieve upper middle-income status by 2030 and has undertaken several policy measures to enhance trade between our country and the rest of the world, particularly with our neighbours,” he said.
“We continue to urge our business leaders to take advantage of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) signed between our countries to enjoy reduced and zero duty access as they trade with each other.”
Ambassador Shava said the business forum provides a unique platform for promoting dialogue and to support the long-term growth of strategic trade and economic relations between Zimbabwe and Botswana.
The business forum was organised by ZimTrade, the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre and private sector organisations from the two countries.
