SUDAN has signalled its intention to deepen bilateral ties with Zimbabwe, with newly accredited Ambassador Ibrahim El Sheikh Abdelrazig Ahmed publicly pledging to expedite the signing of numerous pending agreements and memorandums of understanding.

The ambassador’s commitment, made after presenting his credentials to President Mnangagwa on Thursday last in Harare, focuses on unlocking formalised cooperation across crucial economic and strategic sectors that are currently awaiting final legal endorsement.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ambassador Ahmed said he hoped his coming to Zimbabwe would lead to the fast-tracking of pending MOUs.  “I conveyed to His Excellency the pending agreements and MOUs that are ready for signing, covering many sectors and fields of cooperation such as investments, trade, education, health, mining and artisanal mining, and justice, in addition to the Joint Commission and Political Consultation,” he said.

“At the end, in this regard, I expressed to His Excellency the President my hopes and aspirations for the expediency of signing all the proposed agreements and memorandums of understanding and cooperation between our brotherly countries.”

He also thanked President Mnangagwa for committing to facilitating expanded avenues of cooperation between the two countries.

“His Excellency also extended an open invitation to Sudanese investors, encouraging them to explore and invest in the various sectors available in Zimbabwe—such as mining, trade, agriculture, and other promising fields—highlighting Zimbabwe’s readiness for enhanced bilateral economic engagement.”

The newly accredited Ambassador also affirmed his awareness of the historic bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and shared interests between the two countries, promising to strengthen their bilateral ties.

“I pledge to exert every effort to further consolidate and expand the excellent relations that already exist between our brotherly countries, and to work hand in hand with the government and institutions of the Republic of Zimbabwe for the advancement of the common interests and mutual benefits of our people. I also pledge to coordinate with the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe towards enhancing and bolstering the African bonds and encouraging efforts made within the African context by the African Union and the regional organisation in order to solve and settle problems, disputes, and conflicts facing their countries in both internal and regional manners.”

Ambassador Ahmed called for the Government’s support and solidarity regarding the war in Sudan, asserting the critical need to clarify that the conflict stems from a failed coup attempt.

“I briefed His Excellency on the current situation in Sudan regarding the war imposed upon Sudan, explaining the reality of its nature, and denying the narrative that the war erupted between two parties or two generals aiming to capture power and rule over Sudan.

“This narrative was adopted by some internal powers, countries, and external hostile forces. In fact, the reality of the ongoing war began as a coup d’état launched by the RSF terrorist militia, supported by internal Sudanese political powers and sponsored by external hostile forces from within the African continent and the Arab region. It turned to war as a result of the failed coup d’état and is still ongoing.”
