ZIMBABWE’S national football team, the Warriors, might currently be frozen out of international football but they remained unchanged on the FIFA World rankings released on Thursday.
The Warriors, whose last competitive action was at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon in February, remain 125th on the world rankings and 33rd in Africa despite not playing any international football since then.
Coincidentally, Zimbabwe’s suspension came later in February when the Warriors had already completed their poor campaign at AFCON, where Norman Mapeza’s men could not go beyond the group stage at the 24-team tourney.
While Zimbabwe, with 1138.56 points, have been stuck on 33rd place on the continent, African champions Senegal, powered by the exploits of talismanic striker Sadio Mane, have remained as the best team ahead of Morocco and Tunisia.
Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso complete Africa’s top 10, respectively.
Zimbabwe’s Southern African neighbours South Africa are ranked 12th on the continent.
Five-time world champions Brazil, who have 1837.56 points, are perched at the top of the FIFA rankings, followed by Belgium (1821.92) and Argentina a distant third with 1770.65 points.
France, England, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark make up the world’s top 10 teams.
